The South Carolina Chef Ambassador Program is a statewide initiative created in 2014 to celebrate the people, places, and products that make South Carolina’s food culture so special. Facilitated through a partnership between the South Carolina Department of Agriculture and the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, the program shines a spotlight on the chefs and restaurants helping shape the state’s culinary identity.
The idea for the program began with a conversation between then-Governor Nikki Haley and Chef Brandon Velie, owner of Juniper in Ridge Spring, South Carolina, rooted in a shared belief that some of the best dining experiences in the state can be found off the beaten path.
Through the Chef Ambassador Program, South Carolina’s culinary leaders help showcase exceptional restaurants and local flavors across every region. The program invites both residents and visitors alike to discover new destinations, experience the richness of South Carolina’s food traditions, and connect more deeply with the communities behind them.
At its heart, this program also promotes the importance of eating local, buying local, and supporting South Carolina farmers and producers. Chef Ambassadors serve as champions for fresh, locally grown ingredients and the agricultural heritage that fuels our state’s vibrant food scene.
